In 99/00 he embarked on his first
play/direct project with the Sinfonia Varsovia
with whom he is developing a long-term relationship
which will include recording projects.
Piotr Anderszewski's first solo disc - featuring
works by Bach, Beethoven and Webern - was released
in 1996 and subsequently won the 1996 Polish Critics'
Prize and his most recent recording, an all Bach
CD for the Harmonia Mundi label, was released
in early 1999 to great critical acclaim. The film-maker
Bruno Monsaingeon will be capturing in June 2000
Anderszewski's particular relationship with Beethoven's
Diabelli Variations on a film based on a similar
format to that of his earlier award-winning film
of Glenn Gould's Goldberg Variations.
He has recorded two sonata discs with Viktoria
Mullova on Philips Classics. On the first, released
in October 1995, he was described as "a pianist
of inspirational brilliance" by Andrew Clements
of The Guardian. This started a collaboration
that led to major tours in Europe and the Far
East for the duo as well as a further recording
of Brahms' Sonatas for Violin and Piano in early
1997.
Anderszewski
has a predilection for highly structured works
by composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Bartok and
Webern. "His performances of the most complex
Bach and Beethoven have a white-hot conviction...Among
younger pianists he seems most likely to join
the greats." (BBC Music Magazine). His appearance
in the Second Annual Miami International Piano
Festival of Discovery marked his debut in Miami,
Florida. Mr. Anderszewski is a recipient of support
from Patrons of Exceptional Artists.
