CARLOTTA MAESTRINI (12-Year-Old Prodigy) (Italy)

Born in Palermo (Italy) on November 14, 2005, Carlotta started studying the piano at the age of 5 with Valeria Adamo in the music conservatory and is currently attending the pre-academic program with Donatella Sollima, since 2015.

At the age of 8 she was invited to join the GMC project (Young Musician of the Conservatory) created by Irene Inzerillo and dedicated to the emerging young talents of the institute.

In 2015 Carlotta won the First Prize in the Antonio Trombone Competition. The same year Carlotta performed at the Teatro Massimo Bellini of Catania (Italy) after also winning the First prize at the International Music Competition G. Campochiaro.

In 2016 she won the Second Prize (while a First Prize was not assigned) at the Steinway Piano Contest held in Verona (Italy). In May of 2016 at the age of 10 Carlotta performed Haydn’s D Major Piano Concerto at Teatro Paisiello in Lecce (Italy) with the Orchestra of the Conservatory conducted by M° Francesco Libetta. In July 2016 Carlotta won the First Prize at the International Contest Eliodoro Sollima in Enna (Italy) and was invited to represent the Teatro Massimo of Palermo as an emerging talent in the project “Boundless Music” held in Bologna (Italy), receiving a Merit Certificate.

In November 2016 made her debut in Connecticut (USA) performing Haydn’s D Major Piano Concerto with the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra conducted by M°Tara Simoncic.

In 2016 she was chosen for the leading role as the Narrator in Philip Glass’s opera “The Witches of Venice”, during the Opera season of the Teatro Massimo, under the direction of Giorgio Barberio Corsetti and joined the Children Chorus of the Palermo Teatro Massimo where she has been performing in Operas and Concerts regularly

In May 2017 Carlotta won the first price during the Musical Museum International Contest in Caltanissetta (Italy) and in August was invited to perform a recital in the Saint Domenico Cloister during the Piano Lab Festival of Martina Franca (Italy).

On Sept. 30, 2017, she opened the Piano City Festival of Palermo as the youngest performer, playing a recital in Palermo Prison’s Bunker Courtroom, a symbolic and notorious location famous for holding the most important trials against the mafia crime organization during the nineties.

In November 2017 Carlotta was the youngest student accepted to participate in the masterclasses of Italian pianist Andrea Lucchesini at the Scuola di pusica di Fiesole, in Firenze (Italy).

In 2018 Carlotta was the only pianist awarded in the Abbado Competition in Palermo and on April 30, was invited to perform during the 1st Clandestino Rave Concerto with the Orchestra Notturna Clandestina at the Santa Croce Auditorium in Rome (Italy). This concert was broadcast live by the Italian Radio RAI where she premiered the orchestral version of the 3rd Toccata by Eliodoro Sollima composed in 1951 and conducted by the distinguished Composer and Cellist MºGiovanni Sollima.

In June 2, 2018, Carlotta made her debut as piano soloist on the stage of Palermo Teatro Massimo performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto K40 with the Kids Orchestra conducted by Mº Michele De Luca. Awarded with the Città dei Talenti Prize by the Mayor of Palermo Leoluca Orlando, Carlotta reached the highest score among the Most Distinguished Musicians with Special Mention at the 2018 Ibla International Contest (Italy). During the celebrations for Palermo Capital of Culture, Carlotta performed at the Rai Auditorium, opening the evening with Mozart’s Piano Concerto K40 conducted and arranged for the 100 Cellos ensemble by MºGiovanni Sollima.
