Boris Giltburg
Boris Giltburg was born in 1984 in Moscow where he began his piano studies with his mother at the age of five. He now lives in Israel where he studies with Arie Vardi.
His exceptional talent has earned him numerous prizes in important international piano competitions; among them, first prizes in competitions in Rome (1999), Ettlingen (1998) and Newport (1997). The European Union’s International Youth Music Competition distinguished him in 1998 with the prestigious “EMCY Prize”, and in 2000 he was first prizewinner of the “Voice of Music” Competition in Israel. In the summer of 2002 he was top prize winner of the Santander competition, simultaneously winning the Sony Audience Prize for his interpretation of Béla Bartók's Concerto No. 1 with the London Symphony Orchestra and Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos. In July 2003, he was declared First Prize Winner of the 2003 Vendome Prize in Lisbon.
Despite his youth, Giltburg has already performed in Germany, France, Italy, Austria (Salzburg Mozarteum), Portugal and Israel, and toured the USA with the Israel Chamber Orchestra and Philippe Entremont. He has played several extensive recital tours at major venues and festivals across Spain and has also toured South America, where he returns in 2005. Orchestras with whom he has appeared include: London Symphony, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony, Stuttgart Philharmonic, and with the orchestras in Madrid, Asturias, Galicia, Leon, Malaga and Murcia.
Outside Spain he has played at the festivals in Duszniki (Chopin Festival), Miami, Madeira, St. Petersburg (Musical Olympus) and Wiltz ( Luxembourg). His first Latin American tour included concerts in Bogotá with the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra, in Santo Domingo with the Dominican Republic National Symphony Orchestra, and recitals in Panama and Nassau ( Bahamas). He returns to South America in 2005, giving recitals in 7 countries and playing concerti with the Argentina and Chile National Symphony Orchestras, the Carlos Chavez Symphony Orchestra and the Venezuela and Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestras.
Significant 2004/5 debuts have included: New York ( Metropolitan Museum), Vienna (Konzerthaus with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra), Paris (two recitals), Naples (Teatro San Carlo), Tokyo (Musashino Foundation with the Prague Symphony), and the Israel Philharmonic, where he returns in December 2005 for concerts with Christoph von Dohnanyi.
He was recently signed up by EMI for their Debut label. Boris Giltburg is represented worldwide by Intermusica.
Boris Gilburg returns to the Miami International Piano Festival after a stunning debut in 2004.. He will perform at the Lincoln theater on May 11 at the opening concert of the Discovery Series.
