Born
in 1969 in San Pedro, Argentina, Nelson Goerner
has already established himself as one of the
foremost pianists of his generation. In 1986 he
was awarded First Prize at the Franz Liszt Competition
in Buenos Aires, and in 1990 the First Prize at
the Geneva Competition following studies with
Maria Tipo. The prize led to many other invitations
including a highly successful tour of Japan in
1991.
Nelson Goerner has given recitals in venues throughout
Europe including the festivals of La Roque d'Antheron,
La Grange de Meslay (where he replaced Richter
at short notice), Schleswig-Holstein, and at halls
in Paris, Munich, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Geneva,
Lucerne, and Milan. He has also performed with
the Philharmonia Orchestra under Claus Peter Flor,
the Deutsche Symphonie Orchestra of Berlin under
Andrew Davis, with the Nord Nederlands Orchestra
under Vassily Sinaisky, with the London Philharmonic
Orchestra under Welser-Möst, and with the
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under Gerard
Schwarz. In the USA and Canada, his appearances
have included performances with the Los Angeles
Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Montreal Symphony
Orchestra, and most recently a recital in Dallas.
He has also performed chamber music with the Takács
Quartet in England, Spain and Italy, and with
Steven Isserlis and Vadim Repin at the Wigmore
Hall in London as part of the Taneyev Festival.
Future appearances will include recitals in London,
Paris, Toulouse, at the Menton Festival and in
Naples, concerto performances with the Netherlands
Philharmonic, the Zurich Tonhalle, the Orchester
der Beethovenhalle Mannheim, the orchestra of
the Teatro Comunale, the Halle Orchestra, and
the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mr Goerner has recorded a CD of repertoire by
Chopin for EMI ; also available are CDs of repertoire
by Rachmaninov and Liszt on the Cascavelle/Disques
label.
Nelson Goerner’s appearance on May 14, 2004
at the “Discovery Series” of the Seventh
Miami International Piano Festival will mark his
North American debut.
