Eugene Ugorski
"…people were saying that it was as if he were channeling the great Russian violinist, David Oistrakh, but the point was how original and fresh Ugorski's approach is… he also already has a mind and a heart."
Richard Dyer, Boston Globe
Eugene Ugorski, a sixteen year old from San Diego, is quickly establishing himself as one of the most outstanding young violinists in the United States. Since his orchestral debut in November 1998, he has appeared as soloist with the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Inland Empire Philharmonic, the Utah Symphony Orchestra, the Victoria Symphony in British Columbia, and the Sao Paulo State Symphony Orchestra. In 2004 Eugene played the opening season concert with the Boston Pops Orchestra led by maestro Keith Lockhart. In all of these appearances, he received immediate re-invitations. Eugene has given numerous solo recitals San Diego, Miami and Omaha. All performances were met with standing ovations and received rave reviews in press.
Many of Eugene’s performances were broadcasted internationally. In 2003, his performance of the Tchaikovsky violin concerto with conductor Andrey Boreyko and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra was broadcasted by CBS Canada. In 2004, Eugene was selected as a winner to perform on the national classical radio program ‘From The Top’, which is a showcase for the best young classical musicians in America. Later in 2004, Eugene played five notable concerts in Campos de Jordao and Sao Paulo, Brazil with Maestro Roberto Minczuk. The Brazilian Channel ‘Cultura’ televised the concerts all over Latin America.
In May 2005 Eugene was invited by maestro Valery Gergiev to perform under his baton with the International Symphony Orchestra at the Easter Festival in Moscow. The concert was held in the legendary Moscow Great Conservatory Hall and was broadcasted around the world by NHK, the leading Japanese TV company. In January 2006 Eugene gave three outstanding concerts with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. As a result of these successful performances, Eugene received an immediate re-invitation to perform in Rotterdam the following season. Eugene’s upcoming season concerts include performances at the Miami International Music Festival, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and tours with the Utah Symphony Orchestra where Eugene will play the Shostokovich concerto no. 1 at the prestigious Palm Springs Friends of Philharmonic Series.
Eugene has studied with Professor Vesna Gruppman, flying with his parents from San Diego to Salt Lake City to receive instructions. He presently continues his studies with Vesna and Igor Gruppman through the Gruppman International Violin Institute.
Eugene Ugorski’s appearance at the Miami International Piano Festival ‘s “Master Series” on March 3rd, 2002 marked his debut at the Festival. On May 17th, 2003 he appeared again as part of our on-going program “Prodigies and Masters of Tomorrow.” This year he returns on March 27 as a soloist performing Prokofiev's Concerto No. 2 with the Miami International Piano Festival Orchestra.
