Whoever goes through the list of Mihaela Ursuleasa's achievements up to now cannot help but be astonished at an age which a lady need not fear to disclose. to characterize her playing means to speak of elegance, poetry and power.

Mihaela Ursuleasa was born in Brasov, Romania in 1978. At the age of eight, she performed a Mozart piano concerto at her first public concert and made her first recording. Shortly afterwards, she won the second prize at the International Piano Competition in Senigallia and subsequently went on to perform with orchestras in Rome, Tokyo and Munich. When she was 13 years old, she played to Claudio Abbado, and upon his advice went to the Vienna Conservatory to concentrate on her studies with Heinz Medjimorec.

At the age of 16, Mihaela Ursuleasa was awarded the first prize at the 1995 Clara Haskil Competition. Her career then began with a series of carefully selected engagements: Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3 with Claudio Abbado in Vienna; Schumann Piano Concerto at the International Festival in St. Petersburg, Chopin Piano Concerto in F minor in Hannover, Braunschweig and Munich together with recitals in Rome, Frankfurt, Göttingen, Vienna, Davos and at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. She graduated from the Conservatory with Honours in June 1999.

During the past seasons, Mihaela Ursuleasa was invited to several of the most renowned music centres world-wide such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Philharmonie Cologne, Konzerthaus Vienna, Tonhalle Zurich and also Carnegie Hall New York, where she made her debut as "Rising Star" with a recital in March 1997. In addition to appearances in Young artists' series all over Europe, several highlights have crowned the last years: Ravel Piano Concerto with the St Paul Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Hugh Wolff, Mozart KV 453 with the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, conducted by Kurt Sanderling, Mozart's "Jeunehomme" Piano Concerto KV 271 with the Mozarteum Orchestra and Mark Wigglesworth at the Salzburg Festival and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 under Paavo Järvi with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Bartok's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Vienna Symphony and Wolfgang Sawallisch.
