What’s New in 2016
In an effort to re-ignite interest in classical music and expand our audience, we have incorporated different ideas and concepts into new events for the 2016 Season.
The Miami International Piano Festival announces a series of new and exhilarating musical performances. Established in 1998, the Festival will again debut several of the most gifted up and coming musicians. Our international talent will engage classical music lovers at several world-class venues around Miami-Dade and Broward.
Our concerts are presented in three series at The Aventura Arts and Cultural Center, Broward Center for the Performing Arts and The Colony Theatre and in two special free concerts for the community at Anne Kolb Nature Center.
FOUR CLASSICAL SUNDAYS AT FIVE will be at the beautiful Aventura Arts & Cultural Center and performances are on four Sundays scheduled throughout the concert season. In addition there will be a 100th Birthday Tribute to Festival Co-founder Edith Sorin on Saturday, March 19 at 7:45 PM by Cuban pianist JORGE LUIS PRATS.
The“Three B’s of the Greatest Composers in Musical History-a Tribute to Bach, Beethoven and Brahms” is the theme of the three concert Master Series, February 29-March 1, 2016 at the acoustically perfect Amaturo Theatre of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Pianists, CLAUDIO MARTINEZ –MEHNER , NICK VAN BLOSS , WALTER PONCE and violinist GARY LEVINSON will perform their favorite masterpieces. Our Lecturer in Residence Prof. Frank Cooper will provide illuminating commentary.
Our crown jewel is the annual Discovery Series, May 12 – 15, 2016. The five performances are again at the historic Art Deco Colony Theatre on Miami Beach. We present four successive evenings of brilliant piano recitals by recently discovered artists and musical prodigies from around the globe.
The series will also include the stunning Debuts of Italian Virtuosos VINCENZO MALTEMPO on May 12, & EMANUEL RIMOLDI on May 13 & italian pianist LUIGI CARROCCIA, on May 14, and the extraordinary Prodigy MAYUKI MIYASHITA on May 14 at 3 PM.
The series will conclude on May 15 with an all-new reprise of the very popular “Magic of Opera and Piano Transcriptions”, a collaboration with the vocal studio of Manny Perez- a feast for piano and opera lovers.
Once again, distinguished music Professor Frank Cooper is the Festival’s “Lecturer in Residence” who will provide trenchant commentary and historical context for the audience.
Other Festival Highlights includes a free concert on February 14 with the Winner of the Miami International Piano Festival Academy Rhythmie Wong from Hong Kong, at the beautiful Anne Kolb Nature Center in Hollywood, Florida, and the new series “Classical Underground” a Collaborative Event with the Betsy Hotel A cause-driven cultural movement, where our artists will have the opportunity of getting close and personal with the audience.
