This season we celebrate our 20th anniversary, a milestone in an inspiring and ongoing journey to fulfill our original mission the discovery of artists with distinct talent and individuality who are able to engage audiences musically.  The pianists that the Miami International Piano Festival (Festival) has discovered have dazzled music critics with their virtuosity, and are expanding their careers while setting a path for the next generation of aspiring pianists.

Our 2016 season climaxed with outstanding recitals and a reprise of an exciting performance that combined opera arias and virtuoso piano transcriptions based on operas.  This enjoyable and popular medium will be staged again in 2017 with new talent and novel opera selections.

In July 2016, we had the unique opportunity to partner with the Nova Southern University (NSU) to offer the Miami International Piano Festival Academy (Academy). Our faculty, comprised of pianists discovered by the Festival, performed eight extraordinary concerts at NSU’s Adolfo and Marisela Cotilla Gallery. Academy participants joined the faculty in a closing recital that described as “epic.” The opening of the 2017 Academy next summer will feature the three winners of the 2016 piano concerto competition, and the closing will offer again a Grand Finale, featuring the winners of the 2017 program. The creation of the Academy is a product of the Festival, and it is enabling us to broaden our mission to teach and inspire the next generation of pianists.

As we celebrate our 20th Anniversary, the Festival will continue its efforts to re-invigorate popular interest in classical music and widen its audience, by incorporating innovative ideas, offering intriguing programming, and featuring international artists of the highest caliber at several world-class venues in the Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

Our TWO concert series are presented at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center, and the Colony Theatre.

CLASSICAL SUNDAYS AT FIVE will present five performances at the beautiful Aventura Arts & Cultural Center in celebration of our 20th Anniversary.  The artists featured for these series are: Fabio Martino (Brazil), November 20, 2016; Pietro De Maria (Italy), January 15, 2017; Kotaro Fukuma (Japan), February 19; Misha Dacic (Serbia), March 19; and Francesco Libetta (Italy), April 23.

Other Festival Highlights include a free concert at the Anne Kolb Nature Center in Hollywood, featuring one of the winners of the 2016 Academy program, on February 12, 2017.

The 2017 Academy at NSU will continue our goal of supporting, nurturing, and providing opportunities for musical and creative development to advanced pianists interested in pursuing a performing career. We will create a rich environment that offers collaboration with great teachers and immersion in the wealth of piano literature.
