This season we celebrate our 22nd anniversary, a milestone in an inspiring and ongoing journey to fulfill our original mission, the discovery of artists with distinct talent and individuality who can engage audiences musically. The pianists that the Miami International Piano Festival (Festival) has discovered have dazzled music critics with their virtuosity, and are expanding their careers while setting a path for the next generation of aspiring pianists.
Our 2018 season climaxed with outstanding recitals and a reprise of an exciting performance that combined opera arias and virtuoso piano pieces and transcriptions based on operas. This enjoyable and popular concert will be staged again in 2019 featuring several great singers joined by virtuoso pianists FRANCESCO LIBETTA (Italy) and AMIR KATZ (Israel).
In July 2018 and thanks to our partnership with Nova Southern University (NSU) we were able to bring the Miami International Piano Festival Academy (Academy) to their beautiful campus. Our faculty, comprised of pianists discovered by the Festival, performed nine extraordinary concerts at NSU’s Adolfo and Marisela Cotilla Gallery in the Alvin Sherman Library and the special Grand Finale recital. For this final concert the most outstanding academy participants performed in the unique and congenial atmosphere of the Piano Academy. The 2019 Academy has expanded its program and is offering now, a Violin program in addition to the Piano Program. In 2019 we will feature the winners of the 2018 Academy Program, chamber music recitals and concerts by our stellar faculty. The creation of the Academy is the natural offspring of the Festival, and it is enabling us to broaden our mission to guide, teach and inspire the next generation of pianists.
As we celebrate our 22nd Anniversary, the Festival will continue its efforts to re-invigorate popular interest in classical music and widen its audience, by incorporating innovative ideas, offering intriguing programming, and featuring international artists of the highest caliber at several world-class venues in the Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
