The Miami International Piano Festival presents the Glocal Piano Festival, in official partnership with the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition of Bolzano, Italy. For one day, Miami becomes one of the stages on which a new generation of pianists competes to advance in one of the piano world’s historic competitions.
The festival, in numbers
Fifteen pianists from around the world play a single day in Aventura, one after another. At the end of it, the audience sends one of them on to the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano.
The audience becomes the jury
At the heart of the day is an unusual idea: the audience serves as the jury. Instead of a panel of professional judges, the listeners in the hall evaluate the performances and choose the pianist who advances to Bolzano.
It is a format that turns an audience from observers into participants. What it asks them to weigh is not only technical accomplishment, but individuality, imagination, musical intelligence and the ability to make a genuine connection from the stage.
A panorama in a single day
Hearing fifteen artists one after another gives an unusually broad view of contemporary pianism: how profoundly differently musicians can approach the same instrument, in sound, in ideas, in temperament.
These are emerging musicians already pursuing careers at the highest international level. For Miami, it is the rare chance to meet them at a pivotal moment — and perhaps to hear a major voice before anyone else does.
Miami and the Busoni tradition
Founded in Bolzano, the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition has been associated with generations of distinguished pianists. Through the Glocal initiative it now extends its search beyond Italy, connecting young musicians with audiences around the world.
Both institutions share a conviction: that what matters in a pianist goes beyond technical excellence — originality, conviction, imagination, a voice of one’s own.
A mission of discovery
Since 1997 the Miami International Piano Festival has built its reputation on discovering pianists of exceptional individuality and artistic integrity. Many of the artists it presented early have gone on to significant international careers, and kept their relationship with Miami audiences.
This day continues that tradition and widens it: the future of classical music depends on giving extraordinary young artists the chance to be heard, recognized, supported and remembered.
One stage. Exceptional young pianists from around the world. An audience entrusted with the decision.
